Maserati Quattroporte: Comfort, Emotion and Technology

March 15, 2012

The new Maserati Quattroporte S model gives the Trident luxury sport sedan even more thrilling performance.

Poltrona Frau® leather, prestigious woods and superb craftsmanship make life on board the Quattroporte S truly enjoyable. Owners have the chance to choose from a vast range of personalization options to reflect their unique personality, style and taste. Pininfarina’s exterior styling and the most advanced technology employed in the Quattroporte S work in harmony to give the car its very Italian flair.

The Maserati Quattroporte S is pure driving pleasure. Its responsive 4.7 liter engine was developed to ensure fluid gear changes and superior performance, resulting in a drive that is both captivating and comfortable. To enhance exceptional handling and balance, the Quattroporte S V8 90 °engine reaches a top speed of 174 mph and 0-60 mph acceleration time of 5.3 seconds. Developed to guarantee an even more involving drive to this sensational sedan, the engine produces 440 HP at 7,000 rpm and has a peak torque of 490 Nm at 4,750 rpm. The capacity of 4,691 cc was obtained by increasing the bore and stroke as well as analyzing the engine’s longitudinal mass. The Quattroporte S engine is extremely reliable and quiet thanks also to its reduced friction, which ultimately means lower fuel consumption and better refilling of the cylinders.

The Maserati Quattroporte S automatic transmission provides fluidity and smooth gearshifts without compromising power or speed. The gearbox management software was coincided to optimize gear pick up as well as to make the driver aware of when the automatic transmission is changing gear. The hydraulic torque converter in the Maserati ZF gearbox provides a boost at low-mid revs and ensures sufficient power right up to 7,200 rpm. By selecting the Low Grip or Sport buttons, Maserati drivers can modify the transmission setting to better suit road conditions or match their individual driving style. Low grip mode guarantees maximum safety with slippery or icy road surfaces thanks to the ASR traction control. By selecting the Sport button the transmission is more aggressive with faster changes at higher revs and the emphasis is put on performance. The Quattroporte S can be driven in manual mode by flicking the switch located in the central tunnel.

The Maserati Quattroporte S chassis guarantees an involving drive while improving comfort and safety: well-balanced handling and flexibility enhances the driving experience. The car’s front and rear double wishbone suspension features “antidive’ and “Antisquat” geometry and it is forged with aluminum and hubs, preventing the front end dipping under braking and the rear squatting under acceleration. The Quattroporte S has been upgraded with Skyhook suspension, which controls the variable damping and has a new setting allowing the optimal balance in roadholding.

Maserati GranTurismo MC on the podium for Robb Report 2012 Car of the Year

March 13, 2012

The new Maserati GranTurismo MC is on the podium in the recent Robb Report’s 19th annual “Car of the Year”. Second only to the Lamborghini Aventador (with a MRSP of $387,000), the Maserati MC topped a significant list of competitors from across the industry including: Aston Martin VirageVolante, Bentley Continental GTC, Audi A7, Jaguar XKR-S, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Roadster and CLS 63 AMG, BMW 650i Convertible, among others.

The most significant quote of the article is the following: “The MC might have topped the Aventador if bonus points were awarded for sales, because more judges expressed interest in purchasing this car than any other at the contest.”

The Maserati GranTurismo MC is a milder and more road-oriented version of the company’s track-ready models and can comfortably accommodate four passengers. Yet is also the most powerful and lightest of the current Maserati in production, the quickest from all the times. It is also the first road car in the Maserati fleet to break the 186 mph barrier. The GranTurismo MC’s 6-speed paddle-shifted gearbox is smooth; transmission is superb and provides a classy, sport and a great everyday drive. Everything in the Maserati GranTurismo MC reminds its authentic racing genes inherited from Maserati Corse, the Trident Racing Department.

As Robb Report quoted “the acclaim stirred by the GranTurismo MC underscored our judges’ appreciation for automobiles with attributes other than brute power or singularity of purpose. This car offers poise and balance. The front/mid-mounted V8’s positioning in the chassis makes the MC a handling delight, and the high-revving engine compensates for any lack of horsepower with immediate response”. Robert Ross from Robb Report then continues: “Essentially a GranTurismo S with stylish and aerodynamic accoutrements, this Maserati is a big GT that belies its bulk with a sporting but supple ride. The car’s size benefits the cabin, where rear passengers are rewarded with real seats – a novelty GT car. The MC’s stunning good looks seduced our judges, as did its exhaust note, which is as musical as it is unabashedly obstreperous, especially when the car is set in Sport mode.”
